Relationships
Relationship are hard -- at least for most people. Humans behave in unpredictable ways and learning about your partner's communication styles, patterns of behavior, and personal history will help you develop a healthy relationship.
I offer couples therapy either in-person or online. You can expect effective interventions and skills to improve communication and intimacy with your partner. These are my priorities in working with couples:
Listening and understanding each person's experience(s) in the relationship
Offering balanced exploration of each person's responses and behaviors, not focusing on one person
Explain and practice communication so that each person is heard and understood
Exploring family and relationship histories that may contribute to current problems
Attachment-Informed EMDR
In EMDR Couples/Relationship Therapy, I use a person’s family history and childhood experiences to reveal the patterns that show up in a couple’s relationship. The patterns revealed are often rooted in “attachment” styles, and can be very difficult to navigate. By honing in on the triggers inside each partner, I am able to find the cause of unhealthy responses such as shutting down or fighting.
I have used CBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and other relationship building approaches, and this is perhaps the most effective in getting at the problem of “instinctive” yet destructive behavior patterns in relationships.
I also am a Relationship Coach and offer workshops online. The next workshop series will be offered in March 2024. Be notified of upcoming workshop by filling out the form below:
